Job Description Review and enhance the quality (accuracy, completeness and timeliness) of case management performed by the Occupational Health Nurses in the Medical Services Section through ongoing and effective training and communication.

Support the risk management goals of the Medical Services Section, including monitoring the timeliness of officers being returned to duty to avoid both premature returns and overuse of the Medical Roll and Convalescent Duty Roll.

Monitor the in-person interview process between Case Managers and Officers to ensure efficient turn-around time during the business hours in the Medical Services Section and to avoid the need for over-time work by the Case Managers. Enforce compliance with confidentiality and professionalism from the Case Managers and support staff. Serve as a resource and advisor to the Case Managers to strengthen their knowledge-base and decision-making skills and to maximize the effectiveness of case management overall. Review medical documentation of the Case Managers and support staff to ensure its overall quality and compliance with the risk management efforts. Supervise the medical clearance process for Recruit Applicants for hire and for incumbent officers for assignments to the specialty units (Marine Unit, Bomb and Arson Unit, etc), for fitness for duty and other needs as they arise. Provide comprehensive orientation for new Case Managers. Work in concert with other supervisors to maintain continuity, cooperation and consistency throughout the Medical Services Section.

A Bachelor's degree in Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing or an approved foreign credential evaluation supplemented by four years of progressively responsible experience in ambulatory or occupational health care. Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
